Three days ago, on a Sunday afternoon, I felt a dull sensation wrap around my head. It happened while I was washing my hands. My cat was there with me, watching. I told her, β€œGlenn, mama isn’t feeling too well,” before grabbing my tumbler full of blueberry overnight oats. I felt strange drinking it. My jaw hurt, the back of my head throbbed, and my breathing was shorter than usual.

By 3:46 p.m., I told my husband to cancel our call for our usual order. While moving the right side of my face, I asked him, β€œIs this half of my face moving?” He said, β€œNo. It looks normal to me.” But I knew this sensation. I had felt this numbness before. And that’s how we ended up in the Emergency Room at Kaiser Permanente for six hours.

I’d like to thank my husband for always being there.

  • I want to book appointments with both a neurologist and an acupuncturist next week. The physician who saw me didn’t suggest anything beyond rest.
  • I need to learn how to chill.
  • I’m encouraged to keep working out.
  • I’m encouraged to keep resting and enjoying life.

All I can do, right now, for myself is act on the things I’ve listed. So far, I’m going through Day #3 of my Bell’s Palsy. I am almost done with my three-day prescription of antibiotics.
